In Brazil, the limited variation in electricity prices along the load curve does not favour the operation of energy storage systems. Such projects are economically attractive when they can purchase energy at low prices and sell it during periods of high demand.
In addition, few studies analyse PHS costs in Brazil. The analyses made so far refer mainly to technical and environmental aspects. Enhanced Pumped Storage (EPS) has been proposed as a potential solution for the current Brazilian energy system .
